Cuixi (pronounced "trei shii") is an artist who writes, directors, produces, performs and accidentally codes. She is currently based in Los Angeles and Shanghai. In the name of "performance", she carves out time and space that is thicker than the everyday, where the participants' shared presence can penetrate the complex politics of bodies, relationships and emotions in this contemporary life. In 2018, she co-founded the performance collective _ao_ao_ing ensemble in Shanghai, and had been exploring collective creative practices locally and globally. Her recent works include: Songs of the Feetless Fish (RockBund Art Museum, 2023), WeaverGirl Project (Terrace Project, 2022), Dance Me! China (Shanghai International Dance Centre, 2024). Her devised theatre piece, the Greatest Event in a Doll’s Life, was the first Chinese production that won the Ibsen Scholarship. Her works have been exhibited in or commissioned by Centre Pompidou, Shanghai Power Station of Art, RockBund Art Museum, Shanghai Ming Contemporary Art Museum, and so on.
